A man meets his bride for the first time on their wedding night. He lifts her veil to look at her face. As is customary in Indian culture, the wedding bed is decorated with many, long strings of fresh, sweet-smelling flowers. The maidchamber comes in with a tray to prepare the bride for their first night together, and then leaves them alone.
